Some Velvet Morning - Losing My Mind
Reviewed by Dave on 10th January 2007

London trio Some Velvet Morning present their debut single “Losing My Mind” its an up-tempo little number and it will get your foot stamping but its not going to jump out and go “Listen up!” the first time you hear it, it’s a song that will grow on you if you let it.
The opening bass riff is catchy, it sounds down and dirty and the whole song has that “basement indie club” feel to it, you can imagine it being played in a scuzzy underground, little known indie bar where kids in tight jeans meet to discuss how The Strokes were revolutionary, well maybe not.
Des Lambert’s vocals are edgy and good enough to distract you from the overall simplicity of the song; the guitar riffs are simplistic yet effective. The chorus is where the song really takes off, loud and indignant it gives the song a bit of “umph” and makes you think that maybe Some Velvet Morning are something more than another run of the mill indie band.
“Losing My Mind” isn’t genre-busting, nor is it something we haven’t seen before, but it is a good debut single, keep and eye out for Some Velvet Morning in the future.
