PUCK - Beyond Reason

Reviewed by Helen on 16th March 2008

I would love to be able to love PUCK - not just like them, but really love them. The thing is, there are too many classic bands to compare them to. You'd assume that this was a good thing - but unfortunately, after a few tracks, you begin to wonder if there's enough room left out there for them.

One of those bands that you just know are better heard live, I get the feeling that PUCK haven't translated very well to CD. Possibly they would be better on vinyl. They have that sound.

The low-down: classic guitar, edge of metal at times, slight tint of emo, and a slightly generic female lead singer. I'm sure she's really lovely and can't help it etc, but I couldn't help but think of Paramore. Sorry. Although, to be honest, the sound's more like that of Miss Conduct. True, Miss Conduct were excellent. But what I'm saying is that it's been done.

Please note: reviewer reserves the right to retract review if they turn out to be better live.
