The Hot Puppies - Terry/Love in Practice Not Theory

Reviewed by Andreas on 14th October 2005

Just today this little cd came through my letterbox. Bemused, I went to my room and put it on. Now, don't get me wrong, I receive some excellent cds now and then, but on a whole, the quality can be a bit below par. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the way the world works.

However, The Hot Puppies are the future. I'm not kidding. They are the future of stylish, classy and lovestruck pop at least. You heard it here first. 'Terry' is an excellent poprock song, synths humming all over the place, a sleek guitar riff driving the entire ordeal, and most notably, vocalist Becki Newman's soaring vocals in the "Teeheeeheeerrry, you're good for me!" It's a glorious statement of love and dance. 'Love in practice not theory' sounds like Pulp always wanted, a waltzing beat and some glorious vocals.

Released by Label Fandango by the people behind Fierce Panda, this superb little 7" and cd should see The Hot Puppies shoot high instantly.

Currently on tour with Art Brut, check their website for details. Well worth seeing!
