Jamie Says - Machine

Reviewed by Ben on 21st September 2006

Pop sensibilities don’t come much more perceptive with Leicester based artist Kyle Hill's new project, Jamie Says, delivering his three song promo Machine. Come across like a twee version of Joy Division at times, without the baritone articulation of Ian Curtis, in part Jamie Says is a ascetic approach to the workings you’d consider in the vein of shoe gazing. With synths sounding like they would be more entrenched in a John Hughes film, it’s the deviation of the guitar and bass drive that roots this further afield from pop obscenity.

The three tracks offered to the listener are not unequivocally different from each other, but that in itself is a blessing – why bother to dramatically change the disposition of the music to show a diverse range when what is on offer is nothing short of satisfying. Jamie Says is one to keep an eye out for if you are a fan of baggy sounds, with a inoffensive twee edge to it.
